Boarders lending a hand at cooking

The school received an excellent boarding inspection report in January 2004, reflecting the very high standards of care and provision for the girls who board.

‘A strong ethos of the school is about honesty, fairness and respect and both inspectors who visited the school observed those values.’

A Senior Housemistress and two Assistant Housemistresses look after the boarders. The Boarding House has an informal family atmosphere , and fully flexible arrangements are available, from full time to the occasional night’s stay. Girls are encouraged to live together cooperatively and to support each other.

Older girls have single rooms and younger boarders usually share two or three to a room. Boarders have access to all the school’s facilities out of school hours.

Activities and outings are organized for boarders, and frequently day girls join in with these. Sleepovers are great fun for younger pupils, and in the summer there are camping nights out in the school grounds.

Sixth Form boarders are encouraged to be independent. They are beginning to experience life as young students, in preparation for university.
